Parkinson’s Care at Home

When the nerve cells in our brains stop making the chemical   it leads to a progressive neurological condition known as Parkinson’s Disease. This can result in shaking, stiffness and muscle cramps, as well as affect other functions such as your sleep, moods and eye-sight.

Understandably, many people become worried and anxious when they are first diagnosed due to the life changes it can bring. They may also worry as the condition changes and advances. However, at St Michaels Care at Home we have come to learn that with the right care, support and therapies, a life living with Parkinson’s can still be full and enjoyable.

Our care therefore centres around helping you to manage life around the symptoms. It is very much tailored to you and your needs, just as Parkinson’s affects everyone living with it differently. Our carers are all trained to understand the unique challenges you may experience, and not just physically but emotionally and mentally too. You may need to talk through things and need the assurance of knowing you are heard. You will need to know you have someone there who is patient and experienced in delivering the type of care you need.

We want you to know that we are not just here to deliver care to you as another client but as a person with unique needs, feelings, concerns and interests – whether you are dealing with a recent diagnosis or have been living with the condition for years, Parkinson’s doesn’t need to stop life.

The Parkinson’s Care at Home we provide might include:

  • Activities to stimulate cognitive function, such as talking and reading.
  • Helping you with daily tasks, like getting ready in the mornings or for bed at night.
  • Help with mealtimes and making sure you get the hydration you need.
  • Managing household tasks, like laundry, shopping and meal prep.
  • Help to ensure you take your medication regularly.
  • Help to keep you physically active so as to maintain your mobility.
  • And helping you to remain socially connected.

At St Michaels we want you to feel supported and very much part of the design of the care we provide. We are always ready to listen and to learn as we understand that this is the best way to help make that possible. All our clients remain at the centre of what we do and nothing is too big or small if it can help you maintain the lifestyle that works for you.
