Independent Living

One of the things we try to promote as providers of care at home is a belief that our clients are more than just their physical needs. This can all be forgotten about in the process of managing the care needs that go with growing older, disability or illness.

But taking care of our emotional, spiritual and mental health needs to experience a full sense of wellbeing and vitality is just as important. This is where care that helps you engage with your interests, passions and hobbies can truly help.

Your interests, passions and hobbies are part of who you are. They are often what others use to describe us, and we ourselves. So, when life gets in the way and we stop doing them we can also lose our sense of who we are and our excitement about life. It doesn’t have to be that way just because life has changed.

St Michaels Care at Home offers care support that helps you continue to enjoy the things that make you feel alive. Whether that’s gardening, flower arranging, dressmaking, painting, drawing, writing, reading, debating, birdwatching or anything else. Independent Living care at home can help you reconnect to that inner part of you.

So, what do you enjoy? Don’t stop just because life changes. Let us know what you enjoy doing so we can match you with a carer who enjoys the same. It can make such a huge difference to do the activities you enjoy with others who are just as passionate about them as you are. The first step is to tell us about your interests, passions and hobbies, and we will work with you to see how we can design a care package that will brings it to life.

The things we can help with are not limited to the following, but these are some of the things we do for the families and individuals we provide our care at home services to.

Maintaining your morning routine of getting up, washed and dressed and eating breakfast.
Sorting lunch and anything else you need during the middle of your day.
Doing your weekly shopping, including planning what to buy and packing groceries away.
Completing domestic tasks such as laundry, ironing and light housework.
Taking your medication regularly and at the right times.
Meal planning and preparation.
Errands, such as collecting prescriptions and pensions and helping you to arrange appointments.
Helping you to maintain your social life, such as attending clubs and daycare centres, visiting your place of worship, or accompanying you on a walk in the park.
Helping you to get ready for bed at the end of the evening.

Designing your care package is a carefully thought-out and planned process during time which we will listen to what you say you need. You can also ask us anything you like, as you are bound to have questions. We can also take into consideration the ideas of family and friends, if you wish, who because they know you well can often suggest things you may have overlooked. Your care package is regularly reviewed to see whether it is still meeting you needs. We also encourage our clients to let us know of any changes in their needs outside of these review periods, just in case you need your care package updated between these times.
