Care for the Mind

Play and doing fun things is not just for children – older people need and can benefit from this too. This is why we offer care packages that are based around helping you to enjoy fun and stimulating activities that keep your mind sharp and healthy.

It is a myth that we cannot learn new things as we get older. Research has shown that our brains retain their plasticity and ability to be stretched right throughout life and that by engaging in a variety of brain-stimulating activities we can even continue to generate new brain cells. In other words, we are never too old to learn new things!

At St Michaels Care at Home we can help you rediscover the joy of play and the laughter and excitement that comes with it. This can include anything from enjoying crossword puzzles like Sudoku, board and card games like Scrabble, Snakes & Ladders, Monopoly, Blackjack and Rummy, and other favourites like tic-tac-toe (or noughts and crosses) and Dominoes. We can help you discover new and old games and to reignite the age-old art of healthy competitive spirit!

Many of our clients look forward to our visits and see this as a welcome break from watching television or listening to the radio. Just a couple of times a week can be all they need to feel enthused and stimulated again. Some of our clients will invite friends and family over to participate in the fun. It is up to you and is shaped around what you need and prefer. What’s most important is that you get to see and enjoy playful activities as an important part of taking care of your health and wellbeing, whatever your personal life circumstances. Play and laughter really are great therapies.
